In this story of family and love after loss, Steve Carell plays a widowed father of three daughters who accidentally falls in love with his brother’s girlfriend. The endearing (and, at times, cringe-worthy) exploration of what it means to re-find one’s place in a family builds up an impressive emotional gravitas, only to fumble it in the film’s conclusion in favor of a campy ending. 6 / 10.
